Create and Analyze Custom Reports
Custom Reports in FirstHive CDP provide a flexible way to create tailored analytics reports. While standard reports offer valuable insights, customization may be necessary for more targeted analysis.
With Custom Reports, report structures can be defined to break down data by any dimension, helping to identify trends. Segments can also be applied to filter reports and examine key metrics for specific audience subsets.
Availability: Custom Reports is a premium feature available with our Cloud-hosted Business plan or as a separate purchase for on-premise installations.
Managing Custom Reports
In FirstHive CDP, navigate to Custom Reports in the left menu; or: Settings (Administration) > Measurables > Custom Reports.
Select Manage Reports to create new reports or view existing ones.
Available actions for each report include:
- Edit: Modify the report configuration and filters.
- View: Analyze collected data.
- Delete: Permanently remove reports that are no longer needed.
- Play/Pause: Enable or disable selected reports. Paused reports retain all previously archived data but are no longer processed in future archives, reducing system load.
Creating and Editing a Custom Report
- Click Create New Report in the bottom left.
- To edit a report, click the edit icon next to a previously created report.
Step 1: Define the report name and description
- Name: Use a concise, descriptive name. This will also appear in the reporting menu.
- Description (optional): Add a note explaining the purpose of the report.
Step 2: Define report content
- Select a visualization (table view, evolution over time graph, bar chart, pie chart, cloud chart).
- Choose dimensions (descriptive data) and metrics (quantitative measurements).
- Example: For website traffic, include “Visits.” For performance, include “Avg. Generation Time.”
Step 3: Apply report filters (optional)
- Filters let you narrow data to specific subsets of visitors.
- Example: Filter by mobile device users only.
- Use AND/OR operators to define complex conditions.
Step 4: Assign report page
- By default, reports appear under the Custom Reports category.
- You can also place a report under an existing category, e.g., “Visitors > Locations.”
Step 5: Preview your report
- Click Preview Report to verify configurations before creating the report.
- Note: If browser archiving is disabled, reports may take up to an hour to become fully available, but the preview works immediately.
Examples of Custom Reports
- Page performance by minute: Track page generation time broken down per minute rather than daily averages.
- Events over three dimensions: Link Event Category, Event Name, and Event Action to analyze events comprehensively.
- Revenue per country filtered by mobile devices: Identify which countries contribute the most revenue for mobile users.
- Page URLs by User: Analyze which pages each user has viewed.
There are virtually unlimited combinations, allowing you to create reports tailored to your business goals.
