Graphs and Visualizations
The main reporting area within FirstHive CDP is where you’ll review your data from the various sections of the main navigation. Analytics data within the FirstHive CDP reporting interface is displayed through four primary visualisations: the Evolution Graph, Table, Sparkline Summary Cards, and Maps. Each of these is described in more detail below.
Evolution Graphs
The Evolution Graph visualisation shows a customisable line graph over the specified time period. You can change the period via the Date Selector in the data selector area. Each chart will typically load one metric by default, but you can customise this chart by plotting different metrics. You can also display the numeric values for any metric by hovering your mouse over its point on the chart.
Changing Plotted Metrics
To change the plotted metrics within any Evolution Graph, click on the line chart icon at the top left of the graph. This brings up a list of all available metrics. Select the metrics you want, and the page will refresh with the updated data.
Evolution Graph Menu
Hovering over the Evolution Graph card reveals a menu in the bottom left, including:
- Calendar Icon – Update the graph to display data in days, weeks, months, or years.
- Export Icon – Export the data into various formats for use in other software.
- Image Icon – Save the graph as an image for reporting purposes.
- Annotation Icon – Add annotations to provide context to changes in your data.
Tables
Tables are another visualisation format useful for reviewing your data. They typically show a primary dimension (like page or traffic source) on the left, followed by associated metrics in columns on the right. Hovering over rows and metrics can reveal additional data and features.
Flattening Reports
By default, tables may load hierarchically, rolling up similar data types into top-level categories.
You can:
- Expand a row – Click the plus icon to reveal detailed data.
- Flatten the table – Click the green cog icon and select “Make it flat” to see all individual entries.
Show Table Totals
Click the green cog icon and select “Show totals row” to view metric totals for each column.
Extended Table Options
Click the green cog icon to explore options such as showing totals or removing infrequent data values.
Searching within Reports
Click the search icon below the table to filter for specific data points.
Viewing Historical Data
Expand any row to show a historical Row Evolution by clicking the row evolution icon. You can also compare multiple rows together to analyze trends over time.
Changing Number of Rows Displayed
Navigate table pages using the < Previous / Next > links. Change the number of rows displayed by clicking the current row count at the bottom right and selecting an alternative.
Alternative Visualisations
Table data can also be visualized as bar graphs, pie charts, or other formats using the visualisation menu.
Insights
The Insights visualisation highlights the biggest increasing and decreasing metrics in a report, also known as the “Movers and Shakers.” You can filter for different time periods and show only specific changes (increases, decreases, or new/disappearing elements).
Graphs
- Vertical Bar Graphs – Compare numeric data values visually.
- Pie Charts – Show relative distribution of items.
- Tag Clouds – Visual snapshot of most frequent data points; higher values appear larger.
Sparkline Summary Cards
These provide high-level summaries, often on overview pages. Each card includes a line chart (showing trends over the selected period) and a text summary of the data. The red bubble represents the lowest point, green the highest, and blue the most recent.
Hovering over the summary provides more detail, and clicking on any item updates the Evolution Graph with the corresponding data.
Maps
The Map visualisation is used for location-based data. By default, it shows a world map. You can drill down into countries and regions, with the option to display an Evolution Graph for selected areas. Location data is derived from IP addresses, so accuracy may vary depending on privacy settings.
