Track Impressions, Clicks, and CTR of Banners and Ads

FirstHive CDP provides a powerful and easy-to-use feature called Content Tracking. It helps you measure how many times a piece of content—such as an image banner, internal banner ad, or text ad—was displayed to users, and how many times they clicked on it.

With Content Tracking, you can measure two key parts:

  • Content Impression – how often a specific ad or banner was displayed on a page.
  • Content Interaction – how often a visitor actually clicked on it.

By comparing these two, you get the Click-Through Rate (CTR), showing how likely a user is to click on an ad after seeing it.

What Content Tracking Reports Show

  • How many times a given ad was viewed by users (when it became visible in the browser).
  • How many times a given ad was clicked.
  • The ratio of clicks to views (CTR).

How It Works

When a page loads, FirstHive CDP logs a content impression for each content block (ad block) visible to the user. A content block consists of:

  • Content name (e.g., Sunset Poster)
  • Content piece (e.g., product743.jpg or Buy Product 1 now)
  • Content target (e.g., http://the-banner-link-url)

When a visitor clicks on a content block, a content interaction is logged. You can then analyze the ratio of impressions to interactions (CTR).

Note

By default, content tracking does not record the location of the banner on the page (top vs. bottom). To go deeper, you can use Heatmap reports in FirstHive CDP. Heatmaps show:

  • How many people scrolled to a particular ad.
  • How many hovered over it.
  • How many clicked on it.
