CC and BCC in Journey Emails
Journey emails can now copy relationship managers, agents, a compliance archive or your own team, without a second email step or a custom integration.
The problem
A journey email could only go to the customer moving through the journey. Many emails also need a copy to go to someone else:
- In banking and insurance, the relationship manager or agent must be copied on policy, renewal and loan emails.
- Regulated brands need a blind copy of every communication sent to a compliance archive.
- Internal teams want to see live journey emails to check they render and arrive on time.
Teams worked around this by adding a second Send Email step or pushing data to their own mailer. That duplicated content and broke reporting.
How it solves the problem
The Send Email step in Journey Builder now has an Additional Recipients section with CC and BCC fields.
- Fixed or personal recipients: type an address, or pick a profile attribute such as the RM’s email, so each customer’s own RM is copied.
- Up to 5 CC and 5 BCC recipients per email, applied to all templates or set per template.
- Clean reporting: opens, clicks and conversions count only for the customer. Copies are not counted as extra sends.
- Consent respected: if the customer can’t be emailed (unsubscribed, frequency capped or bounced), no copies go out either.
- Safe by default: BCC addresses are never visible to the customer or CC recipients, duplicates are removed automatically, and a missing RM email never stops the customer’s email.
- Audit trail: every change to CC or BCC is written to the journey audit log.
Use cases
| Who | Use case |
|---|---|
| Banking or insurance marketer | Copy each customer’s relationship manager on renewal reminders, using a profile attribute |
| Compliance team | BCC every regulated email to an archive mailbox |
| QA or customer success | BCC yourself on a live journey to check rendering and timing |
Tip: CC recipients see the customer’s email address and personalised content. Use BCC for internal copies.
